Your Role
This role focuses on delivering direct, meaningful support to children and young people living in refuge and transitional housing who are experiencing, or have experienced, domestic and family violence. You will work alongside families to strengthen safety, wellbeing and long term outcomes. You will provide trauma informed, child centred support within a safe and structured environment. Working closely with families, you will help children and young people regain confidence, reconnect with their communities and build pathways toward independence.
Your Responsibility
- Work in line with the organisation’s Child Safe Framework to ensure best practice at all times
- Develop and implement case plans that prioritise safety, wellbeing and stability
- Deliver one to one and group support sessions with children, young people and parents
- Support children and families to reconnect with education, training, community, culture and country
- Promote independence and resilience in children and young people
- Collaborate with internal and external services to provide holistic, wraparound support
- Build strong relationships with local service providers and community networks
You Will Need
- Minimum relevant Bachelor degree qualification
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar role, including experience working with women and children impacted by family violence
- Sound understanding of the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998
- Knowledge of local support services relating to homelessness and family support
- Strong problem solving and decision making skills, including in crisis situations
- High level computer skills and strong administrative capability
- Excellent organisation and time management skills
- Understanding of trauma informed practice and the gendered nature of violence
- Commitment to culturally responsive practice, particularly with Aboriginal and CALD families
- Experience delivering education or support programs to children, young people and families
